I Blinked

I read a quote today that stated, “Enjoy being in the process of becoming.” I could not help but to stop and reflect. Embarking on my twenties, I always strive to be the best version of myself and make constant progress in my academic, social, and personal life. It is so easy to get caught up in making progress and moving forward. As a result, I’m not always present and I am not appreciating where I am at. This served as a reminder to appreciate this pivotal time in my life.

Whether you’re living at home, itching to leave home, recently moved into a new city, feeling stuck in your old city, single, dating, going out in the town every weekend, or spending more time alone, appreciate where you are at in your journey. Life can change in a single moment, and that is what makes it so beautiful.

You will never live the same moment twice, so don’t waste it dwelling on the past or anxious about the future. It’s so important to appreciate every step of the way. Be happy with what you have while you work for what you want. The best thing you can do is fall in love with the person you are becoming and soak in every moment before they are just memories.

Perhaps what this period is all about is trusting in the unknowns, finding gold in the little things, maximizing memories, and trading anxiety towards the unknown for freedom to thrive within it. The early twenties will not last forever. Let go of the illusion that things could’ve been any different— the what ifs. If it’s out of your hands, it should be out of your mind too.

Instead, appreciate the time and opportunities ahead. Appreciate the doors slowly cracking open, waiting patiently for you to swing them wide with utter confidence. Appreciate your youth and capacities. Appreciate your supporters. Appreciate your relationships. Appreciate your world as you know it— if you blink, you just might miss it.

Much love,

Shaudeh
