Let’s talk about that 8:00am action. Not a morning person? I am about to turn your world upside down. Here is the secret: you need a routine or moment that excites you about leaving the safe haven of your bed. Set a goal that drives you to jump out of bed in the morning. A foundation for a productive day and an optimal motivational moment sets the tone for an efficient 17 hours.
Think of your morning moment as an action that wipes your morning clean. A moment that cleans your slate in one go. Releasing the trauma and stress from yesterday’s endeavors, and launching fresh. Do not worry about yesterday, or last month. Today is a new day, so renew your mind this morning. Be optimistic, start fresh. Take this morning moment as your personal reminder that you can handle whatever today throws at you.
Not every day is great, but if you consistently show up for yourself and commit to yourself, that is all that you can ask for. Drink your iced coffee, do your skin care, hit the gym, watch a video by your favorite youtuber, finish off an episode of your current show, eat breakfast with your roommates. You. Deserve. It.
For those of you who almost stopped reading at “8:00 am action”, seriously leave your alarm out of arm’s reach. If you’re immediately moving, you won’t naturally think about going back to bed right away. Place the first step of your routine somewhere easily accessible: lay your workout clothes on your dresser, prop your Supergoop glow screen on your sink, keep your coffee creamer stocked. You won’t need to exert energy to do the preparations while you’re defrosting. Picking out a gym outfit or rustling through your drawers is way more difficult when you’re half asleep, we’ve all been there. When half the job is already done for you, it is more convenient to finish the task than ignore it.
This might sound hypocritical, but when you’re creating your morning moment, do not do what someone else is doing if it does not work for you. Wellness is not one size fits all. It is trial and error. Use other’s as inspiration, but you do not always have to follow it. Use those around you for motivation and guidance.
Your first blush should give you the validation and motivation for productivity, Find that habit and forge it into a routine. It should be scheduled or blocked into your schedule. Stick with it, show up for yourself. The key to achieving your goals is consistency. There will be moments in your life where showing up for yourself will mean leaving behind the people who do not. Be brave enough to start over when it is necessary. Get up early, make your bed, go for a walk, play happy music, talk to someone who fuels your energy, and you will attract people that you deserve.
Much love,
Shaudeh Farjami
